The PKL began as an eight-franchise program in 2014 and has expanded since 2017 with the addition of four new groups, making the league even bigger with additional stars on show.
During the Season 8 public sale, record breaker Pradeep Narwal was bought by UP Warriors for Rs 1.65 crore, making him the most expensive player in PKL history. Before Pardeep, Siddharth Desai tagged the costliest purchase when he was bought for Rs 1.45 crore.
PKL Season 8, which ended earlier this year in February, returned from a hiatus of almost two years as the Kabaddi League was canceled in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Dabang Delhi defeated multiple-time winners Patna Pirates to secure their maiden title in the final season.
Season 9 has already taken shape with several changes in the coaching staff as Bengal Warriors appointed former successful PKL coach OK Bhaskaran (head coach) and former national kabaddi player Prashant Sarve (assistant coach).
Gujarat Giants, who brought in Ram Meher Singh, also changed their support staff, while Haryana Steelers brought in Rakesh Kumar and recently sacked former Giants coach Manpreet Singh.
